Weight Loss & Custom Boots — What You Need to Know

Before You Measure: Why Timing Matters

At celeris UK, we’re known for our beautifully handcrafted boots — made to your exact measurements, just for you. But those measurements need to reflect your body as it is right now, not as it was a few weeks, months or years ago, or how you hope it might be in the future.

Recently, we’ve seen more and more clients ordering boots while actively losing weight — especially those using medical weight loss treatments like GLP-1s (Ozempic, Mounjaro, etc). These medications often lead to very rapid and noticeable changes, much faster than natural weight loss.

And here’s the problem: The boots arrive… and they don’t fit and it's not our fault.

“But my legs haven’t changed!”

We hear this a lot — but in reality, they most often have.

We’ve seen all the measurements drop by 2–4 cm in just a few weeks. In some cases, even up to 10 cm (over time). For bespoke boots, that’s huge.

There’s a common belief that weight loss doesn’t affect the lower leg much — but we can confidently say from experience (surging over the past few years), it absolutely does. And when it comes to tall boots, accurate leg measurements are crucial to the final fit.

The clear indicator for us is this: when every single leg measurement has changed — as they often do with significant weight loss — it’s not a fitting error. It’s a new size entirely.

If we ever make a mistake (and it’s rare, thanks to our stringent checks), it’s usually isolated to a single measurement, not the entire leg. When we see full circumference changes from ankle to knee, we know — without question — the issue is a body change, not a production error.

Our Policy — Clear and Fair

If you're currently on a weight loss journey — whether through medication or not — we kindly (but firmly) ask that you wait to measure until:

  • Your weight has stabilised
  • You’re confident no further major change is expected

We do not offer complimentary remakes when fit issues are due to changes in body size after ordering. These boots are entirely bespoke, and we make them exactly to the measurements you provide.

How We Can Help

We’re not here to judge your journey — just to make sure your boots fit you properly and last. If you're unsure whether now is the right time to order, just ask. We're happy to advise honestly and help you get the timing right.

That way:
✔️ Your boots fit perfectly
✔️ You avoid any remake costs
✔️ They look and feel right from day one

And to be clear: if we ever make a genuine mistake on the measurements or in manufacture, we will remake your boots without hesitation and at no cost to you. But when the changes are clearly due to weight loss, we simply cannot absorb the costs involved.

At this point, we really do need honesty — so we can remake your boots to fit you perfectly.

Remake Costs (Due to Measurement Changes)

When boots no longer fit because your measurements have changed significantly after ordering — whether due to weight loss, muscle change, or other body transformation — we are happy to remake them, but there will be a charge.

This charge is not for profit — it simply helps cover some of the real cost of materials, labour, and shipping.

What the Remake Fee Covers:

  • A fraction of the cost to remake the boots.
  • Shipping costs — including return of the boots that don't fit and re-delivery
  • A new Zoom fitting to retake accurate, current measurements

From a legal standpoint, the boots have been supplied exactly as requested and made to the custom measurements provided. As bespoke, made-to-order items, they are not eligible for a refund under these circumstances.

That said, we hope you’ll agree that our remake costs are incredibly fair — especially given the time, skill, and materials involved. They reflect our genuine commitment to customer service, and to ensuring you are ultimately happy with the boots you receive.

Why We Charge:

Each pair of boots is handcrafted, one pair at a time. The cost of producing custom footwear is high — and when the measurements provided no longer match the original measurements supplied or taken in the studio, the boots cannot be reused or resold without a loss and never covers the cost involved to remake the boots.

What if Your Boots Did Fit… But No Longer Do?

If your boots originally fit but you’ve since lost a significant amount of weight, the options are unfortunately limited. Boots can only realistically be taken in by 3 cm before the structure and design are compromised — and even then, it’s not ideal.

While adjustments are possible, they’re far from straightforward. We can’t carry out this work in Portugal without substantial costs and delays due to strict customs rules on temporary imports — it can take up to six weeks just to clear customs before the boots even reach our workshop.

Instead, we recommend trusted repairers in both the UK and USA. They do excellent work and will do their very best — but it’s important to set expectations:

  • The boots will not look “like new” afterward
  • You will likely see the work involved
  • Stitching may differ slightly in size and thread
  • Even in our own workshop, this kind of alteration is complex, visible and time-consuming.

It’s a fiddly process and not an exact science — which is why we always say: the best outcome starts with the right timing, and the right measurements, from the beginning.

A Fresh Start (And a Silver Lining)

Many clients in this situation choose to sell the boots that no longer fit and treat themselves to a brand-new pair — made to match their newly streamlined legs. And genuinely, they’re usually absolutely delighted with the weight lose result. And so they should be. A fresh pair of boots to match your new fabulous shape is something to feel proud of — and we’ll be here to help make sure the next pair fits you perfectly.
